What these are built for
Micro-tip snips are a precision tool, not a brute-force one. They earn their place on jobs where the cut has to be exact and the tool has to be small:

Straight blade or curved — which to reach for
The set ships as two pairs because the shapes solve different problems, and most people end up using both in the same session.
The straight blade is the default. You can see exactly where the edge will land, which makes it the better choice any time the cut has to be in a precise spot — taking a cutting at a node, or trimming close to a leaf without nicking it.
The curved blade hooks the stem instead of pushing it away. On a thin, springy stem a straight blade tends to slide before it bites; the curve holds the stem against the cutting edge so it shears rather than skids. It is also the easier of the two to work with when you are cutting toward yourself, or reaching over the top of a plant and cutting blind by feel.

Keeping them cutting
Fine blades stay sharp for a long time if you keep them clean, and go blunt quickly if you do not. Three habits cover almost all of it:
- Wipe the blades after every session, while residue is still soft. Once sap dries on the bevel it takes solvent and scrubbing to remove, and scrubbing is what rounds off an edge.
- Wipe with isopropyl alcohol between plants if you are moving from one plant to another. It takes seconds and it is the single cheapest way to avoid carrying a problem from one plant to the next.
- Dry them before you close the lock. Stainless steel resists rust; it does not ignore it. A blade put away damp and locked shut will spot.
When the edge finally does dull, a few light passes on a fine ceramic rod restore it. Follow the existing bevel angle and work in one direction — away from the edge. A micro-tip blade has very little steel to give, so a heavy grind takes years off it.
Questions people ask
Can I cut woody stems with these?
You can, once or twice, and you will regret it. Woody material either springs the pivot or rolls the edge. Use a bypass pruner for anything that does not cut with light hand pressure.
How do I get sticky residue off the blades?
Isopropyl alcohol on a cloth handles almost all of it. For a heavier build-up, let the alcohol sit on the blade for a minute before wiping rather than scrubbing at it dry.
Are they usable left-handed?
Yes. The handles are symmetrical and the lock slides from either side.
What does the safety lock actually do?
It holds the blades closed in storage. That protects the edge from knocking against other tools in a drawer, and protects your hand when you reach for them.
Can they be sharpened, or are they disposable?
They sharpen. A fine ceramic rod or a fine diamond hone works; a bench grinder will destroy them.
